KAUAI ACCOMMODATIONS

There are a number of accommodation options on Kauai, ranging from opulent resorts to budget condominiums, bed & breakfasts and Kauai vacation rentals. No matter where you choose to stay—the island’s sunny southern shore, historic eastern shore or the lush North Shore—you’ll find yourself surrounded by some of Hawaii’s most spectacular natural scenery.

South Kauai is highlighted by the sun-soaked Poipu Resort area, a world-class destination offering championship golf, tennis, restaurants, shopping and a full menu of beach activities. (Poipu has been named "America’s Best Beach" by "Dr. Beach," a noted authority on coastal environments.) Here you’ll find the widest variety of accommodations, including luxury hotels, budget hotels, low-rise condos, vacation rentals and bed & breakfasts.

Heading north from Poipu, explore Kauai’s eastern shore, popularly known as the Coconut Coast. Two of the island’s most populated towns, Lihue and Kapaa, are located here. Favored by budget travelers, this part of Kauai also offers an array of lodging options, particularly bed & breakfasts, condominiums and small hotels. Lihue and Kapaa offer a number of restaurants as well as the island’s major shopping centers.

Kauai’s North Shore offers the best of two worlds: world-class resorts and breathtaking natural scenery. This part of the island is home to the Kilauea Point Natural Wildlife Refuge, taro fields and views of the Napali Coast. The principal resort areas here are Princeville and Hanalei. Economy hotels, timeshares and bed & breakfasts are also available.

There are no lodgings on Kauai’s western shores, which are dominated by the famous Napali Coast and isolated beaches.

Nicknamed "The Garden Isle," Kauai is oldest of the Hawaiian islands—it’s estimated to be more than five million years old. Kauai is also the least populated county in Hawaii, with less than 60,000 residents. The island’s natural beauty is renowned, so much so that it’s served as a backdrop for many Hollywood blockbusters, including Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Honeymoon in Vegas, Blue Hawaii, South Pacific and the remake of King Kong.
