Some say that real joy is found in the journey rather than in the destination itself. And, though the view we experienced during our ride through Hanalei was one of sheer enchantment and unparalleled beauty, the end destination was truly the crowning point of our trip.
Hanalei Colony Resort is situated on the unspoiled north shore of Kauai, and like the island itself, unplugged from the busied pace of the outside world. After crossing seven one-lane bridges we reached the resort, and were immediately immersed in our surroundings. Towering emerald green mountains streaming with waterfalls provided an awe-inspiring backdrop while the soothing waves of the big blue Pacific Ocean beckoned our arrival.
Comfort and serenity abounds, from the lush tropical landscape that covers the five-acre property to the two bedroom condominiums, complete with fresh flowers, a full kitchen and contemporary, island inspired furnishings. The rooms have no televisions or phones, and their sounds are replaced with that of a simpler Hawaii – birds singing, the surf caressing the sandy shore, and trees swaying with the ocean breeze.
Our mornings consisted of rising with the sun for a leisurely walk on the beach, and each afternoon and evening was accentuated with countless amazing activities. Everything from snorkeling, surfing, horseback riding, tennis, and championship golf courses are a short walk or drive away. And the resort itself supports the ultimate in relaxation with the full service Hanalei Day Spa. Hanalei Colony Resort is the only beachfront resort located on the North shore, so all the adventures of the majestic Na Pali Coast were literally steps from our condo.
