KAUAI ADVENTURES ON HORSEBACK |
From a fast-paced trek along ancient lava flows to leisurely tours of the scenic North Shore, the island of Kauai offers a wide selection of horseback riding excursions.
Horseback riding is available in Poipu, Wailua and the North Shore. In Princeville on Kauai’s North Shore, trail rides include a 90-minute exploration of ranchlands with views of the Hanalei mountains, a picnic lunch and swim at a cascading waterfall. At Princeville, you can even experience life as a real paniolo (cowboy), helping ranch hands round up a herd of cattle and driving them across ranchlands to their holding pen.
Another company on the North Shore offers trail rides that wind through the isolated interior of Kalihiwai and Kamooka Ridge. Ride along waterways lined with tropical flora and enjoy up-close views of Kauai’s northern Makaleha mountain range.
In Wailua, specialized trail rides include a two-hour journey into the island’s lush interior; a five-hour adventure that includes a trail ride, picnic and swim; and a deluxe eight-hour trip that includes plenty of leisure time for swimming, hiking and picture taking.
Located at the southern tip of Kauai, Poipu offers a variety of horseback riding adventures. You can ride through a working cattle ranch, explore a forest of ironwood trees, parade along sandy dunes, and take in mountain and ocean views. Stop for a picnic lunch or a refreshing dip in a natural pool. Along the way, guides share some of the area’s ancient Hawaiian legends and provide special insights
Rides range from 90 minutes to a full day, with prices ranging from $55 to $120 per person. Private rides and lessons are available. Age restrictions may apply. Wear long pants and comfortable closed-toe shoes. And bring your camera!
Known as the Garden Island, Kauai is renowned for its natural beauty. For more than 50 years, the island has served as a favorite setting for Hollywood films, including box office smashes like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Honeymoon in Vegas, Blue Hawaii, South Pacific and the 1976 remake of King Kong.
